Research interests:

International Relations of the Middle East; Political Islam – especially in Egypt; History of ideas in the Arab world; Foreign Policy Analysis; Security Studies approaches to Middle East politics; Jihad – history, interpretation and application of the concept.

PhD thesis was entitled Conceptions of Israel and the Formation of Egyptian Foreign Policy, 1952-1981
