CASAW eLearning Lecturer, Mourad Diouri, Wins 2 Awards at Scottish eAssessment Awards
Two Awards Won for Mourad Diouri in August 2011
1. eAssessment Innovation Award 2011 (Winner)
2. Formative eAssessment Award 2011 (Highly Commended)
The awards ceremony was part of the e-Assessment Scotland 2011 conference which took place on 25th-26th August.
According to the Scottish e-Assessment Awards:
e-Assessment Innovation Award: this overarching category combined elements of all categories: Formative, Summative & Mobile e-Assessment, Facilitating e-Assessment and e-Portfolio. The Scottish e-Assessment Award for Innovation highlighted an example of best practice in e-Assessment, which clearly demonstrated the full potential of the technology and its practical application.
Formative e-Assessment Award : this involves the process of evaluating learner progress which is used to modify learning and teaching. Entries in this category should clearly demonstrate how technology has been used (or is intended to support) the practice of formative e-Assessment.
The award application was based on the work Mourad Diouri has been doing at the University of Edinburgh for the last four years by maximising the use of technology in teaching the Arabic language. The submission highlighted a variety of inventive e-Assessment strategies that have been implemented to deliver the intensive Arabic language programme at CASAW as part of the Masters in Arab World Studies programme. The strategy was essentially about harnessing the social Web 2.0 to the maximum to enhance continuous and interactive e-Assessment of language learners; skills within and beyond the classroom.
The main web 2.0 tools that have been employed to assess and advance learners skills are:
Blogging and micro-blogging; Podcasting; Interactive audio-visual e-Flashcards and e-Quizzes; and Social networking
