CASAW is delighted to announce that it will hold its annual lecture in Edinburgh on Friday 1 October 2010. Zachary Lockman will give the plenary, Palestine & the Politics of History, at the Royal Society of Edinburgh.A small drinks reception will follow.
Speaker Biography
Professor Lockman is Professor of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at New York University. His main research and teaching field is the socioeconomic, cultural and political history of the modern Middle East, particularly the Mashriq. His most recent book is an introduction to the history and politics of Orientalism and Middle East studies, with particular attention to the study of the Middle East in the United States since 1945 and its intersections with U.S. policy in that region. Professor Lockman has also served as president of the Middle East Studies Association and as a member of the Joint Committee on the Near and Middle East of the Social Science Research Council/American Council of Learned Societies, and as an editor (and currently a contributing editor) of Middle East Report.
