Commemorating the Nakba
23 April 2008 (6:30-8:30pm)
University of Manchester
An event on commemorating the Palestinian Nakba was organised by CASAW Fellow Dr. Dalia Mostafa in cooperation with the Action Palestine students at the University of Manchester. Renowned Israeli filmmaker Eyal Sivan was invited to give a talk about his groundbreaking film ‘Route 181: Fragments of a Journey in Palestine-Israel’. This memorable documentary produced in 2003 follows the journey of Eyal Sivan and Palestinian director Michel Khleife along the virtual borderline of UN resolution 181, which partitioned Palestine into two states in 1947. In this road movie, the two directors meet Palestinians and Israelis from all walks of life, and film them in their everyday life and work conditions. The film is a story about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict then and now. Eyal Sivan is a Reader in Media Production at the University of East London. He left Israel in 1985 to settle in Paris. He has directed more than 10 films.
