CASAW Fellow Dr. Dalia Mostafa introduced the Lebanese film ‘Under the Bombs’, which was screened at the Manchester-based Cornerhouse Cinema. ‘Under the Bombs’ is an award-winning docu-fiction road movie shot during the 2006 Israeli war on Lebanon. This war lasted for 33 days during which hundreds of innocent people were killed and thousands injured and displaced, and the country’s infrastructure destroyed. The film follows Zeina, a Shi’a woman returning to Lebanon to search for her son whom she left with her sister in the South of Lebanon. She travels with Tony, the taxi driver who agrees to take her to the South. Through their journey, they encounter many Lebanese from different religious and social backgrounds. These two protagonists bear witness to the devastation which has befallen Lebanon during the 2006 war.
