Alain George (History of Art) and Andrew Marsham (Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies) will be convening a conference on ‘The Umayyads: History, Art and Culture in the First Century of Islam’ on 24-25 June 2011 in Minto House. The conference will bring together some of the latest research on the formative period of the Islamic empire and Islamic civilisation. The main sponsors are the School of Arts, Culture and Environment (ACE) and the Centre for the Advanced Study of the Arab World (CASAW).
